Editing Overview

The Edit Workspace is where the narrative of your video is built. While ORAPHIM offers incredibly advanced procedural compositing and color grading tools, the majority of your time on any given project will likely be spent here, structuring the story.

ORAPHIM's non-linear editing (NLE) toolset is designed for speed, precision, and flexibility.

The Core Philosophy: Magnetic but Unrestricted

Unlike some modern NLEs that force clips into a rigid magnetic storyline, ORAPHIM respects traditional track-based editing workflows while offering advanced ripple and snap tools.

  • You have absolute freedom to place clips exactly where you want them, leaving gaps if desired.
  • At the same time, tools like Ripple Delete, Slip, and Slide allow you to make complex timing adjustments without manually shifting every clip downstream.

Getting Started with Editing

If you are new to video editing, we recommend progressing through this section sequentially:

  1. Timeline & Structure: Learn how the canvas works, including tracks and clips.
  2. Basic Tools: Master the Blade tool and basic trimming.
  3. Advanced Tools: Learn how to perform Ripple, Slip, and Slide edits to massively speed up your workflow.
  4. Advanced Workflows: Discover how to edit live multi-camera shoots and manage complex sequences with nesting.

Tool Selection

Your primary interaction with the timeline will involve switching between a few essential tools, located on the toolbar above the timeline or via keyboard shortcuts:

  • Selection Tool (A): The default tool. Used to move clips, select multiple items, and perform basic edge trimming.
  • Blade Tool (B): Used to cut a clip into two separate pieces at the exact point you click.
  • Trim Tool (T): Changes the behavior of the cursor to perform Ripple, Roll, Slip, and Slide edits dynamically depending on where you hover over a clip.

Let's begin by taking a deeper look at the Timeline itself.
