Supported Media Formats

Oraphim is designed to handle media from almost any camera system in existence without the need to transcode prior to importing.

Note: Codec support varies slightly depending on whether you are using the free version of Oraphim or Oraphim Studio, and whether you are on Windows, macOS, or Linux.

Supported Video Codecs

RAW Formats

RAW formats bypass the camera's internal processing, retaining maximum sensor data for extreme color grading latitude.

  • ARRI RAW (.ari, .mxf)
  • RED R3D (.r3d)
  • Sony RAW / X-OCN (.mxf)
  • Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) (.braw)
  • CinemaDNG (.dng image sequences)

Intermediate / Editing Codecs

  • Apple ProRes (All flavors: Proxy, LT, 422, HQ, 4444, 4444 XQ). Note: Oraphim on Windows can read all ProRes files, but only Oraphim on macOS can export ProRes files.
  • Avid DNxHD / DNxHR (.mxf, .mov)
  • GoPro CineForm (.avi, .mov)

Delivery / Compressed Codecs

  • H.264 (AVC) (8-bit and 10-bit support in Studio version).
  • H.265 (HEVC) (Hardware acceleration available via NVENC / Apple Silicon).
  • AV1
  • VP9 (WebM)

Supported Audio Formats

  • WAV / AIFF: Uncompressed standard (Up to 32-bit floating point, 192kHz).
  • MP3 / AAC / M4A: Compressed standard.
  • FLAC: Lossless compression.
  • Dolby Atmos: Complex spatial audio metadata (Supported in Oraphim Studio only).

Supported Image Formats

  • EXR / DPX: 16-bit and 32-bit float sequences (The standard for VFX turnovers).
  • TIFF / TGA: Uncompressed 8-bit or 16-bit.
  • PNG: Supports Alpha channels (transparency).
  • JPEG: Standard compressed images.
  • PSD: Adobe Photoshop documents (Imports layers as flattened or isolated elements).
  • SVG: Scalable Vector Graphics (Used heavily in the Compositor workspace).
