Creating a Project
Before you can begin editing, compositing, or grading, you must create a new Project within the ORAPHIM database. A Project acts as the master container for all your media references, timelines, node graphs, and settings.
Using the Project Manager
When you first launch ORAPHIM, the Project Manager appears. If you are already inside the ORAPHIM interface, you can open the Project Manager by selecting File > Project Manager from the top menu bar, or by clicking the house icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Step 1: Create the Project
- In the Project Manager, ensure you are in the correct database and folder.
- Click the New Project button at the bottom of the window.
- Enter a descriptive name for your project (e.g., "Client_Commercial_v1").
- Click Create.
ORAPHIM will instantly load an empty project and bring you into the Edit Workspace.
Configuring Project Settings
By default, ORAPHIM sets your project resolution and framerate to match the first video clip you drop onto the timeline. However, for professional workflows, it is best practice to configure your master project settings manually before importing media.
Step 2: Open Project Settings
Click the gear icon in the bottom right corner of the ORAPHIM interface to open the Project Settings window.
Step 3: Master Settings
Navigate to the Master Settings tab:
- Timeline Resolution: Select your desired output resolution. For 4K UHD, select
3840 x 2160. If you are working with high-resolution raw media but want smoother playback on older hardware, you can set the timeline resolution lower (e.g.,1920 x 1080); ORAPHIM's resolution-independent engine will automatically scale all math, and you can switch it back to 4K right before exporting without losing quality. - Timeline Frame Rate: Select the frame rate of your project (e.g.,
23.976,24,25,29.97, or60).[!WARNING] Once you create your first timeline and add clips to it, the Timeline Frame Rate is permanently locked for that project to prevent timing issues. Ensure this is correct immediately after creating the project.
Step 4: Color Management
Navigate to the Color Management tab:
- Color Science: For standard SDR workflows, leave this at
ORAPHIM YRGB. If you are working in a modern HDR pipeline or want scene-referred grading, switch this toORAPHIM Color Managed. - Timeline Color Space: Typically
Rec.709 Gamma 2.4for web and broadcast.
Click Save to apply your settings.
You are now ready to begin assembling your assets. Proceed to Importing Media.
