Importing Media

Before you can edit a video or build a composition, you must bring your source assets (video files, audio files, images) into your ORAPHIM project.

The Media Pool

All assets in ORAPHIM are organized within the Media Pool. You can find the Media Pool docked on the left side of the Edit Workspace by default.

It is important to understand that importing media into the Media Pool does not copy or move the files on your hard drive. ORAPHIM simply creates a metadata reference to the file's location. If you delete or move the file using your OS file explorer later, ORAPHIM will show a "Media Offline" warning.

How to Import Media

There are three primary ways to import media into your project:

1. Drag and Drop (Recommended)

The fastest way to import media is to simply open your OS file explorer (Windows Explorer or macOS Finder), select the files or folders you want, and drag them directly into the Media Pool panel in ORAPHIM.

  • Pro Tip: If you drag a folder, ORAPHIM will automatically create a "Bin" (a folder within the Media Pool) with the same name and place the contents inside it.

2. File Menu

  1. Go to the top menu bar and select File > Import File... (or press Ctrl+I / Cmd+I).
  2. Navigate to your files, select them, and click Open.

3. The Source Monitor

If you want to review media before officially adding it to your project, you can use the Source Monitor.

  1. Right-click in the Media Pool and select Open File in Source Monitor.
  2. If you decide to use the clip, drag the video from the Source Monitor directly into the Media Pool.

Frame Rate Mismatch Warning

If you import a video file that has a different frame rate than your current Project Settings (e.g., you import a 60fps clip but your project is 24fps), ORAPHIM will prompt you:

"The selected clips have a different frame rate to the project. Would you like to change the timeline frame rate to match?"

  • Click Change if this is the first clip you are importing and you want your final video to be 60fps.
  • Click Don't Change if you are importing B-roll and want the timeline to remain at 24fps (ORAPHIM will automatically conform the 60fps clip to play at 24fps in real-time).

Organizing with Bins

As your project grows, dumping all files into the root "Master" bin will become messy.

  1. Right-click in the blank space of the Media Pool and select Add Bin.
  2. Name the bin (e.g., "A-Roll", "Audio", "Graphics").
  3. Drag and drop your media clips into the appropriate bins.
  4. You can create bins inside of bins for deep organization.

Once your media is imported and organized, you are ready to begin editing. Proceed to Create Timeline.
