The Edit Workspace
The Edit Workspace is the heart of ORAPHIM's non-linear editing (NLE) capabilities. This is where you will spend the majority of your time assembling the narrative of your project, organizing media, and trimming clips.
Default Layout
By default, the Edit Workspace is divided into four main quadrants:
1. Media Pool (Top Left)
The Media Pool is your project's library. It contains all imported video clips, audio files, images, and timelines.
- You can create Bins (folders) to organize your assets.
- You can display metadata columns (like Frame Rate, Resolution, and Camera Codec) by switching to List View.
- The Effects Library tab is usually located alongside the Media Pool. It contains all video transitions, audio transitions, generators, and filters.
2. Source Monitor (Top Center-Left)
The Source Monitor is used to preview raw clips from the Media Pool before adding them to your timeline.
- Use this monitor to review takes and set In (I) and Out (O) points to isolate the specific portion of the clip you want to use.
3. Program Monitor (Top Center-Right)
The Program Monitor displays the visual output of your active Timeline.
- What you see in the Program Monitor is exactly what will be exported.
- The monitor includes on-screen overlays for title safe areas, center crosshairs, and transforming clips (moving/scaling them directly on the canvas).
4. The Timeline (Bottom)
The Timeline spans the entire bottom half of the screen. This is the canvas where you assemble your edit.
- Video Tracks are stacked on top of each other. Higher tracks obscure lower tracks.
- Audio Tracks are located at the bottom.
- You can zoom in and out of the timeline using
Alt + Scroll Wheel(Windows) orOption + Scroll Wheel(macOS). - The Toolbar above the timeline contains your primary tools: Selection (A), Blade (B), and Trim (T).
Advanced Inspector Panel
Located on the far right edge of the screen (often hidden or collapsed by default to save space) is the Inspector.
When you select a clip on the Timeline, the Inspector dynamically populates with the properties for that specific clip:
- Transform: Zoom, Position X/Y, Rotation Angle, Anchor Point.
- Cropping: Crop Left, Right, Top, Bottom.
- Composite: Opacity and Blend Modes (e.g., Screen, Multiply, Add).
- Speed Change: Retiming controls for slow motion or time-lapses.
The Edit Workspace provides everything necessary to assemble a complete cut before moving on to the specialized VFX, Color, or Audio workspaces.
