Preferences

Practical Oraphim workflow documentation.

Global Preferences

Unlike Project Settings, Preferences affect the entire Oraphim application across all projects. This is where you configure your hardware, audio devices, and UI layout.

To open Preferences, go to Oraphim > Preferences (macOS) or Edit > Preferences (Windows), or press Ctrl + , / Cmd + ,.

The Preferences window is divided into two main sections: System (Hardware) and User (Interface).

System Preferences

Changes made here usually require restarting the software to take effect.

1. Memory and GPU

  • System Memory: Use the slider to dictate the maximum amount of RAM Oraphim is allowed to use. We recommend giving Oraphim at least 70% of your total system RAM.
  • GPU Processing Mode: Ensures Oraphim is utilizing your graphics card. Leave this on Auto, or manually select CUDA (for Nvidia cards), Metal (for Macs), or OpenCL (for AMD cards).
  • GPU Selection: If you have multiple graphics cards, you can select which ones Oraphim uses to render effects.

2. Video and Audio I/O

  • Audio Interface: Select your speakers or headphones.
  • Troubleshooting Tip: If you press play on the timeline and hear no sound, but the audio meters are bouncing, your Speaker Setup is routed to the wrong physical device here.

3. Media Storage

  • This defines the "Scratch Disks"—where Oraphim saves temporary render cache files, proxy files, and gallery stills.
  • The very first folder listed in this menu is the default location. Ensure this points to your fastest internal SSD. Do not point this to a slow external USB hard drive, or the entire application will lag.

User Preferences

Changes made here affect how the software looks and feels for the specific user logged into the computer.

1. UI Settings

  • Language: Change the interface language.
  • Workspace Layout: Adjust scaling for high-DPI (4K) computer monitors.

2. Project Save and Load

  • Live Save: Highly Recommended. When enabled, Oraphim writes every single click to the database instantly, protecting you from crashes.
  • Project Backups: Enables rolling historical backups (e.g., save a snapshot every 10 minutes, every hour, and every day) in case you accidentally delete a timeline and want to revert to yesterday's version.

3. Editing

  • Contains dozens of granular checkboxes to customize how the timeline behaves (e.g., whether the playhead automatically jumps to the next edit point after making a cut, or whether newly imported images default to 5 seconds long).
